2011 to 2012: Textile wall hanging – Fremantle Trust, London

I supported the delivery of a 6 month textile wall-hanging project with artist Amy Waitt at a Fremantle Trust, London specialist dementia care home. The project was delivered as part of Community Focus arts outreach program. The project engaged with over 68 residents to create a c.2m x 2m felt patchwork applique wall-hanging, representing their lives, personalities and identities. The final wall-hanging was installed within the care home’s garden room.

Plus, supporting delivery of applique textile project within the home’s dementia day centre,  inspired by the wall-hanging project. I worked with the attendees and their carers to create textile artworks inspired by their lives and identities.

The participants really enjoyed exploring their lives through textiles, and one of the staff said: “Mr F is doing the textile class and they are making a square of his time in the R.A.F. Mr F likes this class because it brings in reminiscence about his life and he enjoys it as well
