I led the drawing component of the Arts Award ‘Discover in a Day’ series with St Mary and St Peter Primary School at Time & Tide Museum, Great Yarmouth in March 2019.
The days were themed around the sea and engaged children from Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 over three days with a range of art forms, including pottery and poetry. For their creative efforts, each pupils receives a Discover Arts Award certificate.
In the sessions I led, the children experienced how the things we see, hear and feel can be expressed through mark-making. They made drawings to the sounds and sights of a calm beach, windy dunes and a dark storm, and thought about how the quality of line showed the emotion of the scene.
This series of sessions was developed by Making Waves Together. They are a cultural partnership project linking Great Yarmouth, Norfolk and Lowestoft, Suffolk through their shared culture, heritage and assets. It’s made possible through the Great Place Scheme, funded by Arts Council England, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic England.
