2017: RECLAIMED BY THE WILD

The plants used in Reclaimed By The Wild have spread into the hedgerows, wild spaces and urban edges of the modern landscape. Originally sources of food brought over by the Romans, these plants are now considered inedible to the contemporary palette. Common so-called ‘weeds’, including Alexanders and Ground Elder, are captured onto luxurious velvet fabric

The process involves directly screen-printing plants with an etching chemical to create velvet devore (burn-out). The fabric is then hand-dyed and embellished with running stitches inspired by Japanese patchworking (known as ‘boro’), using repurposed textile swatches

Reclaimed By The Wild was exhibited at Nunnsyard Gallery, Norwich from 15th to 22nd April 2017, and at the UNA Gallery summer exhibition at The Shoe Factory Social Club, Norwich from 7th to 27th August 2017
