MAY-JULY 2019: THE WORLD AROUND US CARNIVAL FLAG PROJECT – GREAT YARMOUTH & NORWICH, NORFOLK

For the second year, I’m working with Norwich City Council and Kinetika to create a series of silk batik flags for the Great Yarmouth Carnival Parade (Saturday 8th June) and Norwich Lord Mayor’s Procession (Saturday 6th July). Plus, CPD at Kinetika Studios in Essex in May.

Last year, I worked under the artistic direction of Ali Pretty and Lisa Meehan from Kinetika, and alongside other local artists and community groups, as part of 2018’s Circus 250 flag project. We created flags celebrating 250 years of circus in Great Yarmouth and Norwich in Norfolk, which have since been included in parades, displays and exhibitions.

For 2019, we’ll be exploring the theme of ‘The World Around Us’, which looks at the local and global environment, wildlife, biodiversity, plastic pollution and human impact through the creation of community-made silk batik banners. The project will be guided by the research of Cefas, Lowestoft-based marine science centre.
